Its normally quite late when I get chance to catch up on GC posts for the day, so i tend to go into the midnight close for 15 mins. The problem is when its comes back on I lose what posts Ive read and what I haven't, because it starts afresh. I find it so infuriating!!! 02

Hi TM02Wi This is probably not the technical answer you are looking for,but it happens to me at times being a night Owl But I will endeavour to find out for you, would it be possible just to write down the Initials for each thread you read Example(General Gardening Discussion/ G.G.D.)in order of reading, then the Posts are much easier to find,Its a long and Old fashioned way of doing things but it is less frustrating:)
Its just a temporary answer until an expert comes along or I can find the answer for you:thumb::)

 O2, I am sorry to hear this, but as far as I know as regards this update situation, I really don't think anything can be done as this is a necessary thing that happens every night & is out of GCs control .... It may change in the future, as there are still one or two things to be done, but for the moment O2, maybe Woos sugestion will help....:( Sorry I cannot be more helpful...!:)

Good morning Slinky Unless I am Mistaken I assumed that TM0",s post was appertaining to the fact that The posts in Question were the Ones TM02 had been reading before the Cut off
and nothing to do with the Post count ,If you are Patient and would leave it with me I will endeavour to find an answer for your particular and Different problem . :thumb::)

Hi slinky & Woo - I may be able to answer the post count going down issue. The same has happened to me, but it did co-incide with the deletion of a very large thread on here a few weeks ago. I reckon when that thread (Pop Inn) disappeared all my posts in that thread went, thus decrementing my post count - I'm only guessing this is the answer, it might not be in your case.

:thumb: Slinky if you remember allot of us had the same problem of the post count going down when the original "Storytime Thread disappeared...!!! This was around the change over time.. I also lost a load too. but never mind... As did you & anyone else who posted in there... but they are only numbers & you are on your way back up the post count again Slinky, so I wouldn't worry, You are not alone though, most of us lost some.....:dh::D

I was always thinking when this happens that it would be better to have a little message saying that the site will be back online in like 15min or something as the general vbulletin message displayed at the moment is basically the same one that other forums have when they crash... or say when you get on the website at say 11:45 there should be a little warning at the top of the page stating that from 12 till quarter past that the site will be offline

Actually, we DO have a such a message, kalmia, but it only appears when WE have closed this site for maintenance. The midnight closure is caused by our present server doing maintenance which should be done away with when we change servers any day now. You may not notice this change, I don't know.

As for the deleted threads, they are only soft deleted (i.e. just taken out of public view) because that way, the posts still exist and therefore it doesn't affect post counts. Only if we 'hard' delete, or physically remove, posts do they drop off the radar that way.

As for the missing posts - I'm as bemused as you all are. Sorry.

:) Hi macleaf and welcome back to GC. Your absence had been noted.

Times they are a-changing and GC will be at midnight tonight and will be down for 2-3 days. I'm not sure if the layout will change or other aspects at that time.

May I suggest you bear with us and come back at the end of the week and one of us will walk you through the avatar problem .... I think you may have lost it when we changed over earlier in the year.

Hope you are keeping well these days. :thumb:

All the Avatars that we used on the old site that came with the software have gone, unless you had your own in PB etc that you could still use.I lost my Angel one so have replaced it with one of my dog that was so kindly painted for me by Dag one of the members on here.

If I had known it would vanish I would have saved it to use on this site if that was possible.

All the smily emoticons that we used on the old site went as well. That is why they only show up as codes in your signature.

If I have got this wrong I am sure someone will come along soon to put us both right.:)
