Hi everyone. My project is a wildlife pond in the garden. I've looked at loads of sites, made the plans and have been digging like mad for two days. I now have a hole!! When it has it's lining and full of water (original) and plants the plan is to "plant" frogs, toads or newts.
Now the problem. In grow to make my snail eaters I need spawn. Does anyone know where I can get it from, when the time is right?

Hi Clashioz welcome to GC. I had a pond a few years ago. No problems finding frogs the frogs found my pond. But you are a bit late for that approach for this year. So as WOO says just go for a walk round the area and when you see a house with a pond, just knock on the door. Local primary schools may help as well.

You can't 'plant' toads Clashloz, they will only breed in a chosen pond and will return to it year after year (15 years or more). Frogs will breed in any standing water, newts are a bit fussy about water quality and prefer old clear mature water. You can introduce spawn but otherwise let them find your pond on their own. [IMG] clashloz looks like my Bob isn't the only one who likes digging holes! :D I'm sure you will find all your need in the pond section and if you don't then ask and some kind soul will help you out.

I could be wrong but isn't April/May the right time of year for frog spawn  Hel.xxx.
