Hi all, I'm fretting today , my little B :chicken:, has an infection in her tummy, it's probably egg yolk peritonitis, she's the last of my ex batts & the most dear little hen, she chats to me when she sees me!. She's been a bit off colour all weekend, so this morning I got an early vet appointment, the vet Ben was fantastic, he was really helpful & gave her a thorough examination.
I left her in the downstairs cloakroom when I left for work, I didn't want to leave her out with the others whilst she was feeling a bit poorly, because they would probably pick on her.
She's had a shot of metacam to bring down her temperature & some Baytril (antibiotic) for the infection, she has more antibiotics for the next four days. I hope she's going to be ok , I hate being at work knowing she's poorly! Roll on home time!

Thank you all so much for your get well wishes & concern. Little B is much brighter tonight, she's drinking & pecking at sweetcorn, she's had a little bit of layers mash. I've given her a syringe of Baytril (prepared by the vet!). I've kept her in the cloakroom for the night, she's got a cat carrier filled with straw & her food/water & treats in there. Her tail is back up so that's a good sign.
Hopefully by the morning we will see more improvement, poor little dear, like she hasn't been through enough being in that dam cage!

Morning my friends, little B isn't herself but her comb is red & her tail is up which are both good signs. She's not interested in her food but has had some sweetcorn. She's standing in the kitchen with her eyes shut :(, shes due some more meds so hopefully once she's had those she will perk up, fingers crossed, toes crossed she will be ok, such a worry but worth it!

I think we are now making progress she's just laid a lash (a lash is egg which gets stuck in the hen then it kind of cooks inside the hen & it then gets infected, that's the best I can explain it!) anyway she dashed straight to the back door shouting to go out! Hopefully this is a good sign!
Thanks Lolimac yes it really does make you feel so helpless, I get so attached to my hens, which doesn't help! i hope your girls are all well :chicken::chicken::chicken::chicken:.

She's my last ex batt, I've had her for 22 months so she's done really well. I wish she would stop laying & spend her retirement laying in the sun & dust bathing! Poor little love, I want to do more but for now I just have to wait for the anti-B's to work & fret of course! I should be able to sneak back from work today to check on her :whistle:so at least I will know how she is. Thanks for your reply Lolimac :grphg:, I shall up date the forum later on.
