Imagine if a whole generation of parents taught their kids nothing

I'm poaching a chunk of cod for my lunch. It's poaching in milk, as I was taught by my dad.

There's loads of things I do that I was taught by my parents. They probably learned from their parents.

Imagine what the world would be like if nobody ever passed anything down.

 

Just taught the eldest how to scoop the crap out of the chickens feeder/drinker while keeping them inside the coop (and cope without the xbox for a few hours)

 

I raise a vegetable garden because my Daddy always did. I learned so much from him. My two children were not interested but I am teaching my grand daughters.

 

We would still be shambling round the savannah looking for something to eat and somewhere to spend the night; while wondering if those red berries from yesterday had caused the belly ache.

 

My dad had a patch which he learnt things from my granddad.. wasn't interested myself when I was younger. Just had fothergills and unwins seed mags through the door so got the kids to pick out what they would like to grow next year, little one loved the peas straight from the pod this year and waiting for them to swell, oh and the strawbs he loved looking everyday to see if they were ripe!

 

They would invent ASBO's

 

I remember them. What a ridiculous idea they were. Someone is naughty so do you a) chastise them to discourage further naughtiness or b) celebrate their naughtiness and give them a certificate and maybe even advertise them on a bus.

 

My grandmother taught me to sew, embroider, crochet, garden, always be polite and be a gentleman to ladies. Her most important advice was, though, if you don`t know something then ask someone who DOES know.

 

From what I see and hear, it seems that a lot of parents think it is someone elses job to teach them basics, mainly school teachers. Young children arriving at school that can't put a coat on or lace their shoes, among other things. Some parents just can't be bothered.

 

I think that's true of some. But such parents are in the minority.

There was an article in the news and while ago. It shouldn't have even made the news but one parent created a storm about it. A headteacher at a school politely asked that parents dress before delivering the kids to school, pointing out that not even changing out of their pyjamas before expecting the kids to do a days work is not a good motivational example.

 

Strongy, nowadays people have children for the money and NOT for the love of children.

 

I could agree if you inserted the word 'some' in between 'nowadays' and 'people'.

My mother was my parent first and foremost when I was growing up; sometimes, that meant making tough choices and tough decisions on my behalf. When I became an adult, I learned that she was my friend.
I have been a parent to my children when they were growing up; sometimes, that has meant making tough choices and tough decisions on their behalf. Now they are adults, I hope they have learned that I am their friend.

 

I know a few parents around here that would be doing society a favour if they didn't pass anything on to their kids.
We had a Scrapco truck at the top of my road yesterday with a couple of cars on it, was he collecting?
Oh no, he was delivering, to the mindless little prat that lives there who "does them up" and sells them on.
Something one or maybe two, possibly three, of his Dads taught him, how to turn junk into cash without getting a proper job.
