There are some things in the countryside that are so simple and yet, to me, stunningly beautiful. This is the one of the views we got while fishing in Rutland.

Even with the constant rain, thunderstorms and more rain the poppies seem to glow in the poor light. Simple but beautiful.:love30:

      Thank you Armandii,
my heart always quickens when I see a swathe of poppies like this.
Above the Dover docks is a Nat. Trust place where you can walk, picnic and stare out acroos the sea to France. Immediately inland are fields that grow cereals and which are speckled in strong red in August with Flanders poppies. Along with the harebells which flower in profusion up there in August, I look forward to this annual visit so much,
      Jenny

That's fantastic, and such a rare sight these days.

Incidentally, I have those poppies in my front garden now. I didn't put them there. All I did was dig over a strip to plant some bare root trees in last year, now I have loads of poppies:)

I just love poppy fields Big A (Carl is Little A :heehee: ). I don't know if it was our very dry winter when we expect our rain, but I saw very few poppies this year and certainly not taking over the orchards and fields as in previous years. :cry3: Thank you for sharing yours. :cat-kittyandsmiley:

You're welcome, Victoria:snork: I was on the fishing holiday in Rutland but we also fished in the Peterborough, Leicester, Suffolk, Cambridge, and Nottingham area as well and I saw poppies every where. They were on the field edges, roadsides and uncultivated land, but there were a good number of fields in the Rutland and Peterborough area that were covered in the poppies. They just looked stunning!!:love30::snork:

Where I work, if you look north across the Medway valley, towards the North Downs there is a field of almost total red.
            I'm guessing its poppies.

So why are we seeing so many cornfields with poppies mixed in?

Are farmers being paid extra, are the seeds in the ground already, (I doubt), or are they being scattered with the corn seed?

Is it down to less spraying?

Have we any farmers within the Gardeners Corner?
Would love to have a chat with them about modern farming practices.

We have at least one. I seem to recall Blacksmith mentioning he was a farmer.

Maybe we should invite him to pop in to GC before harvesting really kicks off?

What a beautiful blanket those poppies form! This pic reminds me of Dorothy's deadly field in The Wizard of Oz. Another color or two thrown into the mix would really make that rainbow pop!
