I took everyone's advice about a month ago and kept my basil indoors instead of planting it out. It is on a very sunny window sill, I water it from below and the leaves are huge! Many of them are over 10cm long - is that normal?!

I have 4 pots of this. They were tiny when I bought them and I have already potted them on once. Now, all their roots are dangling out from the bottom of the plastic pot into the flower pot with the water. Do I need to repot them again? They seem quite happy as they are, but the compost at the surface of the pot rarely gets wet. Is this a problem?

Basil leaves 10 cm long - what are you feeding them with?! Do they taste and smell any good?
The largest on my plants are about 8cms long and that's plenty for me.

If your plants have outgrown their latest pots, certainly you can repot them again. Basil need to be kept growing vigorously or it will start to think about running to seed. In this country, it's usually only a short lived annual anyway.

It doesn't matter if you only water from below, your plants are obviously going great guns.

Thanks for replying. You are the only one!

I'm only giving my Basil water and yes, it does taste and smell great. Still going strong and the plants are getting taller and taller. Shame I'm the only one in our family who eats it! I will repot as you suggest.
