I have been around dogs in the home for over half a century. I recall a time when your only visit to the vets- for other than a standard innoculation - was if he or she sustained an injury. You did NOT have to pay for expensive procedures to remove tumours etc. But then your dog was fed on scraps and plain natural food - which a canine could digest - unlike supermarket kibble which is cheap because it is bulked out with corn by-product crap which is not even close to a canine's proper diet.

I feed Maddie biscuits (Red Mills Tracker 20% protein) soaked and she has a chicken thigh with it for her evening meal.
I have long held a theory that in the late 80s early 90s we started hearing more and more of dog attacks, which resulted in the dangerous dog act 1991 and certain breeds being banned or muzzled in public. I believe the better known 'mad cow" disease was being put into the pet food chain long before this, and responsible for the upsurge in dog attacks.
