I have been given a large pot of water Iris today ( possibly Flag Iris ). There are four fairly large plants in each corner of the pot and smaller plants in the centre. It looks quite well compacted into the pot with lots of dead leaves. I'm expecting a battle to remove them :snorky:. I am wondering if it might be prudent to keep them in pots once divided? I was going to put some in the pond and some in the Bog garden but don't want them running riot.

If you don't want them to run riot, I would keep them in pots (and even that isn't a guarantee they *won't* run riot over time). Much depends on the variety.
I had a gorgeous yellow iris in my previous pond which had glorious orange seed pods which would burst everywhere! I'll have to see if I can find some photos. Anyway, in my naivety I threw some away in the copse end of my garden (which flooded after every heavy rain). By the time I left that garden, four years on, there was a mahoosive clump of yellow iris, 6ft tall, in the dampest area of the copse :heehee:
