I am thinking of putting a bird box somewhere on my allotment, perhaps on the side of a shed to maybe attract some blue tits, or some other similar sized bird.

Surely these birds could be useful for the allotment, as they will eat small insects / bugs etc

There's no reason why you can't put boxes at your allotment that I can think of. You need to be careful where you site them because of cats. Sheds have flat roofs so cats may be able to reach the boxes from there. The tit family like a box with a hole no bigger than an inch across and a landing perch for them isn't necessary either, this will keep larger birds away. :)

Excellent idea! :dbgrtmb: And why stop at just one? :snork:

and the wind direction, and the rain, and not where they will get full sun, or the babies will be fried alive.

You may find this link helpful for choosing the most appropriate site/direction: RSPB: Siting a bird box :dbgrtmb:
