Is gloss paint going to be harmful to the wild birds in my garden?

I spilt some gloss paint in the water dish on my bird table while painting the roof and even though I scrubbed and scrubbed it wouldn't come off.
I came online and looked for answers, but as is always the case with the internet everybody has a different idea of the truth. Somehow the internet manages to mix opinion and fact up, I don't know.
Anyway, I posted on Yahoo Answers (here) and a member called Kevin claims that dried gloss is harmless. Is that true or should I do everything I can to remove it? I've done a google search but didn't find anything all that conclusive.

I'm hoping somebody here can give me a conclusion and put my fears to rest. Until I am sure the water dish will not be filled and I'll probably cover it so it doesn't fill with rain if there's a chance of poisoning.

I would guess that if it's dry it should be fine. I very much doubt there could be any significant leaching of chemicals into the water. Furthermore even if there was any minor leaching, the water will be being changed (rain) so frequently that there would be no buildup of toxic chemicals.

Dont think paint has been poisonous since the lead was taken out of it, so I wouldn't worry.

These days you cant buy anything thats the slightest dangerous, (apart from massive fireworks that is), so I say, dont worry.:)

I'm no expert HBK, but I look at it this way.
If you put that gloss paint on your doors - would it poison anybody if it got wet ?
    I think not.

You can paint a baby's cot with gloss paint now.

Shame, 'cos I must have really used to like the taste of the old lead based paint.
