I've not long moved house and have become the happy owner of a flowering cherry hedge, however it's a little overgrown and while I like the slightly unkempt wilder look I'd like it to stay a hedge rather than become a row of trees!

Thing is I've no idea when the best time to give it a trim is so that I don't cut any growth off that would have the flowers next year. I'm a little worried I've missed the opportunity this year and should have done straight after it stopped flowering?

    Any advice really welcome!! :help:

I think you still have time, next year's flowering will be on the resulting new growth I would think..
So if it has just finished flowering, personally I'd give it a go.

Maybe you can trim the odd dead looking branch.
But I wouldn't give a heavy prune. The new buds are prob starting to grow already. A heavy pruning may not stimulate new ones to sprout?
