Depends how much you want to cut it? Scratch the stems and if they're green underneath then don't cut it, but if the stems are brown having scratched it then cut down to near the base, or any live growth

I only pruned all my outdoor Fuchsias last week and most of them have not yet produced new growth - except Hawkshead which is full of new buds,

I don`t think its too late, Fuchsias can be stopped to promote bushier growth, is this not a form of pruning, I have some hardy Fuchsia out the front I havent got round to tidying up yet, I will then be able to see if any branches have died off and prune to shape.

I personally wouldn't say it was too late. I haven't pruned my hardy fuscia yet. I believe the best time to prune is in early spring so preferably this month (March) after the risk of a frost.

Hi. Im a novice. I pruned my fuscia to almost ground level thinking it was the right thing to do. The stems looked dry, but it was very green inside. Have I killed it?

I live in Scotland so even my hardy Fuscias tend to die right back over winter. They get pruned to about 2 ins off the ground around late March early April and the only "snag" with doing this is that they tend to take longer to flower again. I've ones which are now huge bushes so this treatment doesn't seem to do any harm what so ever.I don't keep tender Fuscias so if that is what you're inquiring about sure there will be others on GC who can give you better advice than I can.

Thanks Silu. Not sure if its tender. I think is a hardy type. I bought it from Wilkinson for 17 pence as it was small and they were clearing out. It was labelled as Army Nurse. From a small plant it grew quickly last year into a real great looking much bigger plant.
