Is it too late to mow ?

Last mowed about 5 weeks ago, but because it's been so mild and warm recently it's really shaggy ! Should I just live with its shaggyness over winter, or could I get away with a light late mow ? Does seem rather wet though. I guess what's set me off is next door have mown theirs

 

A light trim now should be OK, don't set the mower too close though.

Blimey, really, I didnt think you could mow so late, but that's good to know ... going to give it a go :-)

 

I've been mowing small lawns .... but you need to mow at midday when it's at it's driest

grass has still been growing (I read somewhere that it still grows when temps are above 4 degrees C) ....

I also try keep the lawn at 2 inches high and not shorter

however, I think the cold will be here by midweek, so mowing will come to an end until spring

 

I've been mowing mine but with the mower set on the highest setting (I think that's about 2 inches on mine). Only when its dry though.

To be honest, I've been using it more as a hoover for all the leaves that fall off next door's tree rather than for cutting the grass, as the grass is still growing here but very, very slowly now.

I was happily ignoring the shaggyness of my lawn untill next year, then I saw your post and now I've gone and mowed mine. I'm more your lazy bloke kind of gardener (I prefer to call it naturalistic!) but must admit it does look a lot nicer now though

Deffo the last one of the year now as it's hibernation and planning time.

With a 'mad' dog on the premises, I can't say I have a lawn per se, but I do have grass and, if it's growing and needs cutting then it gets cut, after all, the grass doesn't know whether it's April, December or August bank holiday muck-spreading - although I do tend to use the hover mower when it's too damp for the 'proper' one.

 

Well I cut it today, and it cut okay and certainly looks better for it ! A few patches where the grass got flattened instead of cut, but not bad. Only thing not is that my boot marks are all over the lawn ... hope they spring back over time :-/
