Planted a conifer in february it doesnt appear to have grown in this time, it is approximately 2 metres tall I believe it is called a gold conifer

Noticed last week i noticed a yellow patch on the side of the conifer, opening the conifer up i noticed that the yellowing was quite pronounced on the interior of the plant

watering the plant before i noticed a couple more patches on the other side

I read up on the yellowing of conifers and its quite common however all articles say this happens in autumn i cant find any mention of yellowing in early summer

I water the plant on average 3 times a week, could i be watering it to much or not enough?

I covered the top soil in hardwood chips last week but i have left a good area around each conifer exposed for watering (did this after the pics)

Hi pistolpete, stop watering as the yellowing could well be the first signs of root rot. Conifers are drought tolerant and tend to look after themselves. Possibly move chips away from the base as these help retain moisture. Should recover in no time. That said, the tree looks in good health

It was planted in feb from a root ball it has been fine until 3 or 4 weeks ago could i have planted it incorrectly? i used plenty of compost and a little blood and fishbone

For 25 years we had 2 large conifers (about 12ft) in our front garden, I can't remember any relative ever watering them...
