I'm a complete novice at gardening. (See my introduction >thread<.)

When I bought my house, it had two purgolas, with nothing on them, ripe for me to choose whatever I wanted to grow over them. At the house end of the garden I went for honeysuckles. However, at the bottom I went for a grape vine (as I've always wanted one)!

I have very little idea about them, but regardless, I purchased a Vitalis Ruby Grape vine, it was about 3 ft high. We planted it out about 2 months ago at least. Since then it got a few leaves appearing near the top, however, over the last 3 weeks they have shrivelled up.

Here are some pics, I'm wondering, is this dead? And is there anything I can do?

    Thanks.

This is it's location, at the back of the Rockery, behind the lavender.

It's not grown more than an inch at most.

Did you by any chance catch a frost after the buds had burst ?.

Its just a thought as I know some places did get some very late fosts this spring.

It could have dried out, as its roots would still be contained in the rootball.

Erm, I'm not sure, how can I tell in either case? And is there anything I can do to check or keep it alive (assuming it's not already dead!)

We're pretty sure it didn't get a frost after the buds came.

You can only keep it moist and wait.

You might not have noticed the frost at this time of year, as they go about 5 in the morning. After you've spent as much time as i have, sleeping outdoors, you realise frost can come on a clear night, even in august.

    Mine looks like this,

If yours dont pick up, dig it up, take it back where you bought it & see if they'll replace it, worth a go.

Keeping it moist, no change so far, we'll see how it goes.

Ziggy, that's just made me feel even worse about mine! lol :ntwrth:

Sorry, if it makes you feel any better, my fig tree (10 years old ) looks like your grapevine, no leaves, vaguely green buds, you'd think it was dead but the branches are still flexible. I'm leaving it though, as its had a bad few years, whilst i've been building the house.
