    Hello,

Getting very large clumps of this and growing very quickly and almost overwhelming some other plants. Is it a poppy? It has quite a large think white tap root, a bit like a dandelion but a fair bit bigger.

Wondering if this is likely to explode next year if it it goes to seed..?

    Cheers

Beat me by a few seconds!

Certainly looks like the annual Papaver somniferum. Commonly called peony flowered poppy. A magnificent display.

Yes, P. somniferum. Some are double, some are single, and they come in different colours as well - pink and plummy purple as well as red. You won't know which you've got until it flowers.
