    Hi
I'm worried that this manure isn't well rotted because there are bits in it although it doesn't smell. Could someone help please!

    Thank you

    Welcome to Gardeners Corner :sign0016:

Bit hard to tell from a pic, one way to find out is to feel if the bag is heating up as fresh stuff gets very hot :)

Looks rotten to me, no straw visible or shavings?

Thanks for the responses. I was just worried that it does have long bits in it which could be straw. I just don't know what it should look like!

If it doubt, pile it up for 6 weeks, how many bags you got? :)

Put your hands in the middle of the bags, if it's not hot then it's rotted :)

I use fresh stuff to make hotbeds, it'd be steaming in this weather.

In the olden days country house gardeners used to dig out the coldframes, put a thick layer of fresh horse muck in and seal with some of the soil to keep them a little warmer. Good enough to grow pineapples I believe?

                    (Sorry, also off topic )

12 inch!!!! :hate-shocked: You must have been posh :heehee:

We didn't get a TV until the mid fifties and that was a second hand Ekco 9 inch with a magnifier fixed over the front. We had to go up the road to a friend's house to watch The Quatermass Experiment. They filmed it not far away from us at Ally Pally.
