    Hello,

Is this mildew on the leaves in the photo? It's appeared in the last month or so. It can be brushed off by hand.

    Is it treatable?
    Life threatening if untreated?

(And apologies for all the questions, but) what is the name of this tree?

I bought is to go next to my front door (under the shade). Had it a few years now, but this is the first time I've noticed the white fluffy stuff on it.

    Many Thanks.

Yes I think it may well be mildew.
Give it a fungicide spray and make sure it stays moist at the roots.

I think it might be an euonymous of some kind but could be wrong.

Yup, it's probably powdery mildew although it looks a little uneven which is unusual.... To put it another way, if it's not powdery mildew, I don't know what it is.

It's unlikely to kill your shrub but it'll spread and be unsightly if you don't treat it. The internet is full of remedies - both organic and inorganic. Since your shrub appears to have waxy leaves, you could try just washing it off with a very dilute solution of washing up liquid but if it returns, zap it with a proprietary fungicide.

Sorry, I can't identify your shrub.

    Pete

I think you're right about it being a euonymous. The finely toothed leaf was puzzling me.

Maybe a euonymous latifolia grown as a standard?

    Thanks for the replies.

I've only been watering it once a week with 0.5 L of water (in this hot weather). The roots may be a bit dry.

I'll go to my local garden centre and buy some fungicide. I don't want it to loose its leaves.

    Regards.

More water and some feed would seem to be a good idea.
