I built this from old pallet wood at work.
    It's approx 3ft x 1ft x 1ft.
Will it be suitable for growing parsnips?
I plan to line it with plastic. How many holes will I need to provide for drainage?
    Thanks !

Personally I think you need something deeper.
But will be interested in others opinions.

    Hi Paul,
I think that it's a brilliant planter..... but...... I must agree with Pete.

Think about it, how long are Parsnips, I know I've had them around 10/12" long , so, that wouldn't really be deep enough for them.

I tend to think its all about that long thin bit at the end of the tap root.
Once it hits something hard, like the base of that box the whole root will deform and probably fork or twist.
How about growing some of those round carrots.

      Ahh
Maybe I'll use this for something else, maybe a few peas??
Fortunately I have plenty of pallet wood to make more

How much deeper should I make it?

Just dont think parsnips are suited to container growing.
But never tried myself, so just guessing.
As far as I know there are no varieties of parsnip intended for container growing as such, unlike carrots.
