Another sad story of PC gone mad ! All this warranted was a minor on air apology . Someone in the HR department at BBC Devon , should really be considering another career.

Absolutely over the top, and no d0ubt partly related to the very recent witch hunt that has taken place against Jeremy Clarkson. I utterly abhor racism (or any other 'ism' for that matter), however I am equally disgusted at the behaviour of those who would class themselves as liberal and tolerant in partaking in over the top reactions such as this one.

        Tolerant my rosy red bum.:mute:

Its crazy. I remember back in the 1990s when lots of popular reggae songs had to be changed because someone, oddly not the people of Afro-Caribbean origin that wrote and performed the songs, decided that the word 'raggamuffin' was offence.

I also remember a rastafarian DJ being fired from BBC Radio 1 after he deliberately flouted the new BBC rule by playing original versions of popular reggae song because they didn't offend anyone when they were written, or for years after they were written, and in fact the only people who were offended it seemed, was someone in the BBC, who's job it was to decide what other should or should not be offended by.

Jeremy Clarkson has recently been told that one more offensive remark, any time, any where, even if he's not at work, will result in his sacking. If/when that happens, that will be the day when I'll finally get round to cancelling my TV license because I've been thinking for some time now that the quality of BBC work, and some of the decisions they make, has been in decline for a long time now.

I must admit that I am getting increasingly more narked with the British Brainwashing Corporation, continually trying to brow-beat us into what we should be thinking. If its not smoking, its alcohol; if its not alcohol, its fat; if its not fat its sugar

This has been discussed this morning on Three Counties Radio on Jonathon Vernon Smiths show and it is appalling what has gone on especially as this man has a medical problem that has now been made worse because of the stress suffered and as he said himself this morning his consultant has told him it will be a long time before his health is back to where it was before the stress.

The BBC has now offered him his job back but as he said himself that he is too unwell at the moment to even consider it.

I don't like all the blonde jokes and the insinuation that us blondes are all thick, and I think even on this forum blonde jokes have been put up but I don't rant and rave about it,I just live and let live and go back in to my thick shell:snork:

As an aside, with all the BBC's political corectness, they've never actually listened to the last line of The Rolling Stone's "Start me up." :heehee:

Absolutely, they really shouldn't be attempting to save people's lives, improve their health or saving the NHS a pile of money. Disgraceful!

There is a vast difference between providing a level of education and information, and the over-board approach that the BBC often take. Don't get me wrong, in general I like the BBC and fully understand that they have certain duties to perform as a public broadcaster - - over recent years however, these duties have seemed to become more and more just a case of ramming an idea down our throats (usually so we don't complain too much when the government decides to tax whatever it is subsequently).

I am also all for saving the NHS money, but there are a whole load of areas in which the NHS could save shed-loads of money (not least their many IT 'follies'), but they choose not to. Its amazing just how quickly the governments and NHS forget where their funding comes from - I'd like to bet that I have paid in WAY more than I have actually taken back in services over the years - so forgive me if I find it a bit hard to swallow when a TV channel, which is after all an entertainment medium, starts to brow-beat me about having one too many sugars in my tea.

Following on from alex's video of Paul Robeson, the 1936 hit musical of Showboat has Paul Robeson in the role of Joe. He sings the world famous song Old Man River in it.

If you look up youtube for the song it also has the lyrics beneath it. In the first two lines of sixth verse of the song Paul sings the first word of each line as 'Darkies'. In the lyrics below the video the word has been changed to 'Coloured folks'! B.... stupid in my opinion as the words are in the song and people will be listening to them. More PC gone mad:dunno:

To be honest, I would say the phrase 'coloured folks' is as bad as anything - - everyone is coloured, after all, its just that we are all different colours.

                    Oh alright then!

Is it the self-improvement programs - usually the 8 till 9 slot - that you don't like? I don't watch a lot of TV but I occasionally catch stuff called Secret Thin Clean Person/Fat Person You Are What You Gobble Swap. Strikes me that they save the Beeb a whole lot of money as presumably they don't have to pay the sad self-publicising masochists that they feature much, nor build a set, nor spend more than a few days filming. The programs are probably easy to edit too and you wouldn't have to pay a whole cast of grasping actors. And they make the viewers feel good for not being quite as greedy/grubby/neurotic as those featured on screen. I quite enjoy watching them. but then I probably do most of what they advocate diet-wise so it's a bit of a smug-fest.

Bring back the old-style public information cartons, I say. Direct, paternalistic and uncomplicated. Coughs and sneezes....................
You probably have to be 60+ to get that one.
