Is this Pieris OK?

    I have a Pieris which seems to be doing ok from the front...

    but after I untangled it from the bush to the right of it I found that it was very thin at the back near the fence. I realise that there won't be a lot of leaves growing at the back where there is little light but is this going to effect the quality of the plant? Is there anything I can do to fill it out or will it fill out more now that the

    The stems look as if they are dead to me. Try snipping each stem with a pair of secateurs. If it's green inside they are still alive, if brown they're not. Carry on snipping down the stems every two or three inches as they may still be alive further down. If you find they are green inside leave them and they should re-shoot next year.

    I don't think there is much else that you can do, the older wood at the bottom of the shrub looks as if it's past rejuvination, but I could be wrong.
