It looks like maize

    But is it?, This fellow just appeared in the garden and it does look like maize but the pod is only a couple of inches long, I also speculate on how it got there, it must have been a large bird that passed a seed that size.

    It's Iris foetidissima, grown mainly for its orange seeds in autumn/winter. The flowers in spring are pale, but quite pretty.

    Thanks for the info odd name though I don't remember it being particularly stinky.
