Let me get my "mitigating circumstances" in first.
I'm not at my best first thing in the morning.

I got up early yesterday morning to play golf, second time in a few days after four months off.
That was a disaster, as after a couple of holes it started chucking it down non-stop, so we walked in after playing seven.

Anyway, it was a bit chilly first thing, err.. 7.45 am. is "first thing" for me, so I turned the thermostat up on the central heating. We turn it down a couple of hours before we go to bed, which can be at different times.

    Nothing happened.

The combi boiler came on if I ran a hot tap, or switched the boiler to manual, but turning up the thermostat.... nothing.

Twenty years ago I had to replace a thermostat on the old system, so I suspected this one, after only seven years had gone faulty.
Thoughts of where's my Avo meter? and if necessary, the best place to get a replacement stat.? started going through my head, so I left it on manual and went to golf.

I was standing under my brolly at the side of the fourth green with water dripping down my neck, waiting for one of my partners to putt out, when it struck me...... (not their ball!)

As we've not been getting up so early until I started playing golf again after my hip operation, I'd re-set the timer for later than usual.
It wasn't due to go on until 8.30am., ten minutes after I left the house!

OK. What daft things have you done which should never have happened?

    Hi Doghouse,
I like the Christmassy avatar :)

Well I think there must be lots of things I have done :hehe:

I know I once decided to hang a picture in the living room myself and hammered home the picture hook when water spurted out - I went into panic mode and got a "ticking off" from OH for not realising I had put it above the radiator in line with the pipes. I will never live that one down :(

The clasic is removing the "U-bend" on the sink to remove a blockage and then emptying the bucket into the sink before you put it back.
