It`s a bonny weed

Can some one tell me what this is please.There is only one and it wasn`t there last yr.It`s maybe 3ft and i think it must be a weed.

 

I think its a foxglove (digitalis). You may have had the foliage last year because they take 2 years to flower.

It is a foxglove, no doubt about it, and a nice colour too. As Craig said, they take two years to bloom.

The nice thing is that they seed themselves out so you get them in different places every year. Different colours too. Look at the leaves carefully so that you don't pull any out in future thinking that they are weeds, would be a pity.

 

Elaine, here is a good picture (I hope!) of the leaves. This should give a nice show next year if all of these get to bloom.
