Italian Cypress - storm damage

    I lost the top 9 inches of a 5 ft Italian Cypress in the storm last night. Will it continue to grow upwards or just outwards (or at all)

    I'm no tree expert, but a neighbour of mine have a Cypress and they intentionally had it topped as they thought it was getting too high. It now grows outwards a bit towards the top, so kind of looks like an up-turned bottle brush. It doesn't seem to have resprouted from the growing tip at all.

    They are lovely trees, so sorry it got damaged.

    Hopefully someone with more knowledge will come along and perhaps provide a solution.
