Some lovely roses in the video Gail but there's still nothing better than a red rose. :)

It is, a very peaceful and restful place and I can see 90% of the garden and what's going on from there. I built it some years ago out of wood left over from other projects with no real idea how it would look when finished . Along the way I added a Nest Box into the roof so that birds could enter from the front.

So this is where I sit in Spring with a mug of tea and look at the shoots poking out of the ground while I think "What's that, what's this":heehee:

The Rose. To me the rose is hypnotic. As science researcher. As a gardener. As a lover.

To me the Rose is and for centuries been, "The plant". Forgive me please, but try and bare with me. Yes all pnts exhibit their beauty. However the rose is so, so far advanced. If I may. My dear wife Valerie passed away in 2010. We had enjoyed 49 yrs of happy marriage, raised two daughters also. We both had this passion for roses. At Vals passing, I redesigned our tiny garden. I spent a small fortune on new roses. Sadly most failed. O looked at the formation and texture of the blooms.

Looking closer to the blooms. I could detct similarities to Val.. Tenderness. Love. The finer petal markings to me suggested many and varied attributes of Val. Other plants also have their points, but. To me. The rose is te supreme.

There's a rose for everyone and every occasion and you couldn't have picked a finer flower to commemorate the loss of your dear wife Mike.

While at the RHS Show at Tatton in 1999 my wife saw and liked Rose "Crazy for You"

and asked me to buy it. I could see the rose sitting there at the back of the stall and asked to buy it. The seller looked at me in confusion and asked if it was mine, which threw me into confusion. After a couple of minutes of misunderstanding I realised that the Rose was actually sold and waiting in the sellers Creche until the buyer came back for it:doh::heehee: Luckily, he had the very last one for sale so I bought it and all was well. Now that, despite the other roses I have, is the one I treasure as being the one that is my Wife's and mine.:love30::snorky:

Hi Gail. As a point of interest. It is worth considering that with roses, climbers will automatically keep going on so much so that if left, you end up with a very long stem with a few leaves at the end. So when pruning we need to basically stop the onward and forward growth. We cut so as to allow lateral new shoots. These are then trained horizontally and kept in check.

The Rambler type rose, does just that. No it's not atracted to the windows of the decorative curtains. It simply rambles on chucking out side shoots all over the place. Careful, thoughtful pruning can prevent problems. Cut so that new growth will be directed away from the window or whatever. At the same time consider the inner part of the structual growth, at time some sacrifices have to be made. Just a couple of........hopefully helpful tips.
