I bet a lot of 'Joe Public' are panicking. Whatever for ?

It's only a bigger chicken, just don't cook it until it's all dried out.. And if you are desperate, you can get all the vegetables pre cut, roasties from the freezer. The cake already iced, mince pies by 'Heston'

Me, I love to every thing myself. I learned a lot from my cookery lessons in school,
it's all forward planning, and of course timing. I remember I had to write down
my timetable of when I prepared things so that they came together for the meal.

Of course, if I am not mistaken 'Domestic Science' is no longer done in schools ?

Cooking a Christmas dinner is, as you say, easy. It's just a matter of planning and timing as you say, but contrary to the beliefs of some, timing does not have to be precise. It's a bit about experience,a lot about judgement, and even more about just staying calm and relaxed.

Oh and above all, reject ALL offers of help, unless the offer comes from the very person that taught you all you know.

They never taught us how to cook a Turkey in our Domestic Science lessons or even a chicken come to think of it and coming from a very large family of ten kids mum and dad plus foster kids my mum couldn't afford to let us have any hand in cooking the turkey so when I got married I hadn't got a clue and had to learn as I went along:biggrin:

Even after all these years I still don't enjoy cooking Christmas dinner as there is too much faffing about but I do tend to cheat a little sometimes by buying ready cooked roast spuds and Yorkshire puds and mince pies and sausage rolls instead of doing my own from scratch, but that is mainly because I don't want to slave away in the kitchen all day on Christmas Day

We dont have sunday dinner in our house very often like maybe three times a year not including xmas.

If i had to cook xmas dinner i wouldnt know what to do as i have never ever cooked a sunday dinner mainly because i actually dont like roast dinners. Xmas dinner sucks apart from the stuffing i love paxo stuffing. I would happily just eat that lol

We have a turkey crown that you dont need to rub with butter or put bacon on or baste (spl) you just stick it in the oven and when the little metal thing in the top pops up you take it out. We will also be having a rolled boned beef sirloin joint but not sure how thats going to be cooked. The cooking this year is down to my mum and youngest bro as my dad is recovering from major surgery.

I am cooking xmas eve dinner for my parents tho which will be pollock with pumpkin gnocchi which will be mixed with courgette, tomatoes, baby spinach, mushrooms and feta.

I will also probably be in charge of making the bellinis topped with cream cheese, smoked salmon and caviar on xmas day.

Oh and im baking a red velvet cake in a gingerbread house bundt cake tin which will be baked on xmas eve and then i will top the roof with chocolate butter cream icing on xmas day and i will be spraying that with silver glittery spray and sugar snow flakes

I didnt realise how much i was doing until now so i may not be walking by the end of xmas day /boxing day.

A bit of corned beef and salad would go down well.
            Or maybe a fry up.

            I'm staying really calm.

              NO NO NO!

I never give out gifts at Sunday dinner or wear a paper hat, or eat all of the homemade cookies or listen to Christmas music or have my special cranberry sauce with added grand marnier, or have decorations

Too much fun! Yes, a lot of work but really jolly times at Christmas :)

                          Is that all :heehee:

I've gotta ask - am I the only person that dislikes cooked polystyrene (AKA parsnips)?

For brekkies we always have homemade sausage rolls straight from the oven (the sausage meat is homemade and has oregano, onion and a bit of garlic in it).

This year dinner is three cheese - steak, mushroom and stilton pie, brussels (with smoked streaky bacon, walnuts and parmesan) caullie cheese and the fluffiest and crispiest roast tatties. There'll be some red wine gravy which I made the last time that I cooked roast beef on the side.

Neither of us really likes desserts so the big cheese board comes out to finish off.
