After years and years of knowing about its existence, and thinking its a brilliant idea, I've finally joined freecycle.

And my first post is an offer. I'm hoping somebody wants some of the junk that is cluttering up my garden. First batch is several sacks of broken bricks that someone might want if they are, for example, laying a patio or a new garden path perhaps.

Lets see what happens. I expect those sacks of broken bricks will be sat there for months now but we'll see.

I use it a fair bit clueless, got rid of some clay plant pots yesterday that I was never going to use ever again (sods law: probably will need one this weekend and have to go out and buy one :))

Also I got a decent camera case for my dSLR, strangely it was been listed by an ex-colleague I worked with years ago - I had no idea it was him until i went to collect.

Good luck with the rubble, you never know someone might take it. You've lost nothing by trying anyway.

I was amused by this rule from Freecycle.

          6. NO OFFERING YOURSELF OR YOUR CHILDREN. Posting oneself or another person from the human species is not allowed.

So mothers in law are still allowed then? :)

Would you believe it, I posted my 'offer' at about 11AM. It got released from the moderation queue about 11:30, and at 11:50 I get an email from someone interested in my broken bricks/rubble:)

                Nice one Clue :)

Put taken STC until they actually show up. If you get a no show tell the mods, 2 no shows and they're banned.

Still puzzled about something on freecycle last week,

                ?????????????????

I haven't figured out how to edit the post yet, which is unfortunate because I made a typo in the post and couldn't figure out how to edit it.

Not sure you can, there's a lot of typo's on Freecycle.

I have used Freecycle for years. Excellent for when I have a clear up. Some other poor soul ends up with all my junk. Plants are often on there too. :)

                    Freecycle is good but......

Prepared to have a lot of rude people not even saying please for stuff you have on offer and people not showing up to collect the stuff they have been gifted. I been let down too many times by other members so if it's small enough I leave it outside of the house, if no one collects it then I haven't wasted any of my time waiting around for them.

I do love Freecycle and have been rewarded so many bits is the past few years. Other half is collecting a sewing machine tomorrow for his lathe project :th scifD36:

Freecycle is great, I've got some great plants and garden stuff off there, one of the best was a collection of 6 very large clay and terracota pots with a dozen smaller ones and troughs as well as a bag of broken pots for drainage :)

It's also, as mentioned, great for getting rid of junk, but I also like donating surpless seedlings, plants etc through freecycle, we've got a good name now locally and we have regulars coming for plants that now bring us pots, compost etc in return :)

Occasional rude people and no shows are all part of freecycle unfortunately but they're in the minority round here :blue thumb:

The other thing to watch out for is the traders, they grab stuff and car-boot it or put it on ebay (probably not relevant for bricks and rubble, more likely clothes or electronic goods). It's not easy to tell until they turn up and often I just leave stuff outside so I don't worry that much. If folk can't be bothered to spell check or be polite in their emails I rule them out, also I only select people who state a reason why they want things.

On the other hand I do sometimes ask for things to sell on behalf of the charity I volunteer at, but I always ask in my email if they don't mind me selling the item. I've picked up one or two items of old camera gear that way and raised a few bob for the charity.
