Ive got a new alloment

    Hi guys ive took the plubge and got myself an allotment
    How would you guys takle this and what would you start sowing now. Am i too late for potatoes?

    Ive planteded some runner beams today in pots and dfb too. Any help would be appreciated

      It`s quite simple Kenny. Get a fork and start digging. As you turn a decent patch over, plant potatoes, onions and the like. For brassicas, weed but don`t dig, an area, and plant up. For peas and beans, turn over another area, rake in some fish,blood and bone add some canes and plant up. Give everything a good watering to help settle the soil, and watch them grow.

        I would have used roundup to start with. Then lay weed membrane and plant through that.

          I don't think there are any short cuts - I would mark out some beds (with paths inbetween) and clear one bed at a time. In the past I have found potatoes very good to start with as planting and harvesting them the soil gets broken up nicely and with the amount of leaf cover they make it doesn't leave weeds much chance.
