    Good morning all

Just had to share this with you

    IVE GOT MELONS :D

its my first time growing these and i was a little gutted as i don't like to be beaten at anything as nothing seemed to be going on with this plant ,

i got confused as to having to polinate the female with the male  and every time one or the other flowered they all died off

but............................. i have a 1 big melon growing and 3 little ones are following

    so excited

    here is the little beauty

I reckon that Melons don't give you the right combination of flowers until the plants are really to actually support them. I get loads of male-only flowers early in the season. But I think its only once the side shoots are established that the female flowers start (and I think I read it is better to let the melons develop on side shoots, rather than the main shoot).

My book is an bit ambiguous, but it seems to imply that it is best to wait until there are 4 or 5 female flowers on the plant, and then pollinate all simultaneously, so the plant carries them all at the same stage I suppose. Anyone got views on that?

I don't think we need a vote to know that "Cattwoman has got melons" is going to be a popular thread :)

Well done Catt it's always nice to have babies especially if all you have to do is feed them it's the nappy changing that isn't so great but lucky for you your babies will not need that kind of attention thank gooodness!:D

It's amazing how excited Bob and I get we jump about like silly teenagers when any new flower or fruit starts to come on, we'll never learn or grow up for that matter and I for one wouldn't have it any other way!

Once again well done Catt soon you'll be able to enjoy the fruits of your labour now there's a pun in there somewhere, good on you girl!;) Hel.xxx.
