I was walking the dog along the canal, when I can across the local pair of nesting swans, only the female looked terrible, not moving at all, even with dogs sniffing around. As I couldn't get hold of any of the charities on the phone I had no choice other than jump into the canal, fend off the pi**ed off male and get the sick female out of the water. I tried my local vet, nobody in, so headed to Pets at Home. I rested the swan (they are heavy!) on the counter while they tried to find a vet and suddenly heard a 'clunk'. I looked down and the poor swan had laid an egg on the display shelf!! I couldn't believe my eyes! It's with the PDSA in Huyton now, I pleaded with them to save her, I think there are other eggs on the nest, and the male is distraught :-(

If the PDSA vets are what they used to be, they will do their best. Well done you for doing your best. Too many people would have just walked on.

Good Job. I hear with chickens the eggs can get stuck. Maybe that is the issue. good luck to the pretty thing.

Well done Yvonne, I couldn't have walked away either!

Let's hope they return her to the same place. You are probably aware that swans pair up for life, her other half must be frantic, poor thing.

You were brave Yvonne,I wouldn't fancy fighting off an angry Swan but I would do if I had too..Hope you're OK:thumbsup:

That's a very brave and kindhearted thing to do - going into a canal and rescuing an animal in distress . Very well done indeed :yay:

The swan appears to have got sick quickly, another dog walker saw the pair only 2 days ago and they were fine. There were no injuries so I think the poor thing has eaten something. The bird was ringed so the vet reported the death and about the male.
