Any advice on when to cut back hard the ivy growing on my garage wall?

Up to now I've always done it about now to October but I've recently read that it's best done in the Spring.

When do all you experts reccommend?

    Thanks xx

    Hi Stingo,

I am no expert but I very much admire Ivy, and would advocate the big prune taking place at the very beginning of spring so it can have the best chance of putting on young fresh and atrractive foliage during peak growth months. This is often the case with all evergreens Stingo.

Keep the good foliage for winter interest, and then right back to the wall in March.

Ivys are best left until spring before being pruned.

    Prune it :lollol:

I've been trying to kill mine for years.
It grows like wildfire even with weed killer on it.
I have cut it back all times of the year dug it out tried to poison it and it grows back beautifully.
If only the rest of my garden grew as well. :cnfs:

    Spring.

Whilst you could do it now if you wait till spring it will recover quicker.
