Hi, woo! I had an ivy such as yours when I was in Bucks. In fact, it took over the entire garage. Best way with ivies is to cut them down low, to a foot or so above ground level then let the top bit die down. You can then safely remove the dead bit on top within a month or so without doing damage to whatever it's clinging to.

As far as the roots go, I must admit ignorance as I never tried to remove / relocate one, but yours is young.

I am sure someone here will follow this up and advise you of the correct procedure.

Good luck. I love ivies albeit that they are invasive! [IMG]

I planted ivy to grow up the front of my house. Big mistake, it found its way into the loft ant out between the tiles. I found it's way into the void between the bricks and the inner blocks, eventually finding it way into a bathroom.

I cut it down at ground level and a yard above that so there was a big gap. After a while I pulled it down and shredded it for the compost which took a long time, then I drilled holes in the roots and filled them with Root-Out crystals. The roots rotted and the tiny bed is now ready for my to plant something more manageable.
