Strongylodon, do you actually have one? Is your Avatar a picture of yours? I saw a picture of the red one from New Guinea - identical except with red blooms and strangely even a different species ... Mucuna bennetti ... I certainly would love one of those!

Unfortunately no. I first saw one in Singapore botanical gardens back in '83 and was stunned by the turquoise colour. I grew one from a cutting when I worked for an exotic plant nursery which closed down later and the plant went to Wisley, might still be there. They are a truly tropical vine so not much hope of growing it anywhere other than a palm house or similar. [IMG]

Think it might still be at Wisley, I think I remember seeing one there, did you propagate it strongy?

There is a magnificent one in the Cambridge Botanic Gardens. You walk through a great curtain of these hanging clusters. Lots of other exotics too - watch this space!

Pete, the one I grew from a cutting was taken to Wisley in '88 it may be the one or they may have propagated from it later, I haven't been there since '81.
Hornbeam, a beautiful photo of a beautiful vine, you have it colour correct which is difficult. it often appears blue or greeen instead of true turquoise. [IMG]

I have just found a nursery that is selling them but at £35+12.50 p+p I am not tempted, even if I had my own greenhouse, particularly as they need a minimum winter temp of 15c to grow well.
www.exoticplantsdirect.co.uk/ is the place (mail order). It is the online part of the nursery which holds the UK Callistemon collection and sell all kinds of exotics now.
I'll just have to be satisfied that I grew one once. [IMG]
