I started my Jalapenos from seed in February, had a devil of a job getting the seeds to germinate - I only managed 2 from 50 seeds. Anyway they were both bubbling along on a sunny south facing window , both in the same size pot , both watered and fed the same as the flowers formed about 2 weeks ago. Then........2 days ago one started to wilt , the soil was moist so not under watered ( possibly over watered ?). I moved it to a cooler part of the room , but as you can see my Jalapeno No 2 is looking pretty terminal. Does anyone have any possible remedies, would repoting help or any other ideas ? :help:

    Oh No Harry,

Yep, they need to be in much bigger pots now. Check for root aphid when you do it.

Cheers Ziggy , I'll pot it up tomorrow and move to the green house. But i am seriously out of space with the cool temperatures and the gale force winds the green house is a refuge for containers which should be outside now. The temp in the NW now is a heady 15°c !! it goes up to 20° next week so I'll move them out then. What does a root aphid look like :what: white and wriggly ?

Pale & fat. (why did I think of the Mrs then:what:)

Try to keep the temperature similar if you can Harry, don't want to shock them anymore.

Couple of mine haven't recovered from transplanting and are being finished off by greenfly:DOH:

Looks like it could just be overwatering to me.

If it is, repotting will do no good.

And the last thing you want to do is repot a plant thats obviously got root problems.
Try drying out the rootball by standing it on a folded newspaper for a few hours, it acts like blotting paper.
You can check for root aphids while doing this.

If all fails, take a couple of cuttings from your other plant.

I agree with Pete, they have been overwatered, put them somewhere to drain. No point in repotting.:dbgrtmb:

Thanks for the help Ziggy , Pete and Dai
I will take it out of its pot and leave the root ball to dry out on newspaper as advised . I must admit the Chili is looking pretty terminal now , this will be like raising the dead ! Fingers crossed.
I will keep it separate from my other Chili plants in case it is infested , and I will take more care on the watering of the others.
