I look after my friends garden from time to time because he as arthritus, his garden is like a back yard so he has a couple of small borders but lots of flowering pots,he likes jasmine so two years ago I got him two jasmine plants and put them in two big pots and erected some trellis so they could run along, they are growing well but there is not much flowering I just wondered if putting them in pots is the problem.

depending on the type of jasmine, most favour a sunny position ....

The ones that I have planted only flower in summer (June/July)

if you want to fertilize them, add a balanced fertilizer when you see the new leaves emerge (should be about now)

water once a week during the growing season (don't overwater)

if they are in large pots, a few handfuls of compost or manure once in a while will also benefit them

they are not too fussy and are pretty hardy

Some years are better than others. My grandfather planted one straight after the first world war. It was still going strong when the house was sold last year, but goodness, it had almost taken over the garden - needed a machete type prune most years. Beautiful flowers in early summer and because it was so big the scent filled the house.
