Hi so my first proper post here but I wanted to ask about a seedling of jatropha podagrica. I had a random one germinate from a lottery seed mix but it never did well with me. Now I have another seedling. What is the best compost for it? I tried cactus compost and then multipurpose but it still died with the previous one.

Strange as I was just looking at my Jatropha multifida and its losing all its leaves.

I have grown podagrica before and I didn't have any problems, even managed flowers and seed.
I just use JI compost with some extra grit added, I believe good drainage is probably the key plus bright light and sunshine, which we don't get much of in the UK.

Obviously some extra warmth in the winter, I keep mine around room temperature, but higher in the summer.

Thanks for reply. I'll try the compost you recommended and see how he gets on. Still tiny yet with seed leaves and stem only. Pretty easy to ID though even at seedling stage.

@Victoria has a few but she can grow them outside most if not all year.

I have three and just use multi compost. As @pete says, mine live outdoors permanently but I do lose leaves in the Winter, although I don't get frost or even get near zero.
