:help:Hi guys, we're looking to move to the Lowestoft area. Are there many jobs available there? We're only looking at menial jobs, kitchen work, tescos, B&Q etc. We've tried edp 24 and direct.gov but they aren't much help. Anyone got any practical advice.

Only Part time work is avaliable Lowestoft is very poor job wise Most people work at Bernard Matthews. There is a lot of unemployment in the town.

Beccles where I live is better but again only part time work

Hi Cajary, sorry I can't help with a job.
It must be hard for people genuinely looking for work. All I can say keep looking. It will come up for you.
Don't just look for advertised posts. Advertising costs money and sometimes people don't advertise but do need staff.
Write to local hotels, care homes etc. And phone them up !
Your call could land on the day they are desperate - been there and was glad of the call.
Get your toe in the door and you could be made.
A good kitchen assistant is a hard thing to find - and much undervalued and underpaid.
    Good luck with the quest.

Good luck Caj, all I can suggest is to pay a visit to the area and personally visit the shops and restuarants you like the look of, sometimes they put signs in their windows rather than advertise in the local papers, and as Alice says if you ask at the right time you will get lucky if you are persistant.

    Hi Cajary,

Good luck with the move. I moved into Blaunau Ffestiniog in the depths of the 1990s recession. I took a job in the slate quarry that had been advertised for months & then got grief from the locals for taking a job away from them.

Truth was, they didn't want to do the job because they would loose the benefits.

And, yes. I did argue this out with them & stood my ground. There is always work out there for someone who wants to work.

Thanks for the replies, guys.:gnthb: We'll probably give it a go but it won't be until next Spring (It'll take me that long to finish the decorating:hehe:). Part-time work will be fine for me and by that time the holiday camps should be opening up. Hopefully that will tide us over until we can find something permanent.:)
