Where did it snap? the handle or the stainless steel shaft? Under certain conditions stainless steel can become brittle. Joseph Bentley and their retailers have a reputation to maintain. If you return the fork to the retailer I'm sure they would be willing to replace it and send the damaged one back to Bentley for them to examine.

yes agree with Alex Scotkat, either take it back to where you got it from or contact Bentleys direct as that is very poor.. Good luck & let us know the outcome!

Yep, Scotkat, I've got a Joseph Bentley man's spade which I got early this year in exchange at Wyvale's when I had a split in the stainless steel blade on a top class traditional spade I'd only had for less than a year. It's still okay even though I've put it to good use.
When I took the broken spade back the staff and manageress were brilliant, even though I hadn't kept the receipt for the spade, and exchanged it without a problem and I got my money back for the original spade!!!
The impression I got was broken spades, no matter what the brand, is a common occurrence and the Plant Nurseries are well used to replacing such items. It is frustrating though when you've spent good money on what you believe to be a top spade only to have it break within days. Joseph Bently is a good brand and I'm sure you will not have a problem getting the retailer to replace the broken spade.

My son in law returned my Twentyear old Spear and Jakson quality fork back to me last weekend two bent tines and snapped shaft

Perhaps, sticking it under a three inch thick tree root jumping on the handle to lever said root out was not what it was designed for :-(
He did buy me a Bargain Homes £8.99 fork to replace it though :cry3:
