I couldn't resist buying this rose ( not the actual one in the picture!) from the David Austin Rose centre. The rose in my photo was growing in the gardens which are really well set out and lovely.

This rose has a gorgeous fragrance a bit like sweet white wine and looks so delicate.

I never used to into roses but have two now..

    Must be getting old :D

Jude the obscure by Thomas Hardy, a real classic.

I was actually shocked at one point whilst reading it - never happened to me before or since reading a book, its a very beautiful sad tale.

Stingo , that rose looks lovely, I've never heard of it. Waco, don't you find Thomas Hardy 'pushes' his characters really hard to get an unhappy ending where none seems necessary? I found this particularly upsetting with Jude the Obscure.
As Jude is the patron saint of lost causes, I don't think the rose deserves this name!

Bought the book today Waco and Liz, lets hope I can get on with it so to speak. So I'm not only getting educated in the flower department but in the literacy department too, can't be bad.

It is a lovely rose though isn't it Liz, I saw it growing in the David Austin garden and just had to have one! :D

Er - Stingo - you can be young and like roses!!!!!

..... you just have excellent taste!!! ;)

    My favourite flower??? Yellow Roses!!!!
And I have been drooling over this one in the DA catalogue - and it can be trained as a climber!!!! I haven't bought it yet, as there are no borders ready for it, but there is a lovely sunny bit of fence earmarked for one!!

Only joking about being old Honey Bee of course I am not!!!!!!!.........

Yes I have been debating where to put it and being as it can be trained as a climber when my morning glory finishes flowering and growing up my arch think it would look good there.

IMO it looks better in real life than in the catalogue  so go for it.

Its comming back to me now, but I think there are a few DA roses named after Thomas Hardy's stuff, "Wenlock" Mayor of Casterbridge, all reminds me of my dark days.

Liz - as a "Dramatic soprano" I probably push my characters too! Know what you mean though but I think he summs up life well - too well for me to read anymore.
