    Hi,

I'm new to this forum. I've just moved into a new home which has a rather mature garden. I have been trying to identify three large shrubs but I'm struggling. I want to know how to care for them etc and don't want to get things wrong.

I've attached 5 pics. The first 2 are of one, the next 2 are of another and the last is the third.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Welcome roryscarlett.

    1. and 2. Looks like a winter flowering Viburnum. Possibly Viburnum x bodnantense Dawn.

    3. and 4. Looks like Cornus alba elegantissima.

    5. Hmm! I would like to see more pics. Are the leaves opposite on a branch? I think it may be another Viburnum sp. Possibly Viburnum tinus.

Thanks for your reply silversurfer, they look spot on! The last one, viburnam tinus does have opposite leaves which seems to match the pics on google.

They are all about 8ft high and I want to cut them back quiet harshly. I'm going to go away and do some internet research. Thanks again.:gnthb:

Your Viburnum xbodnantense 'Dawn' will have lovely fragrant flowers on the bare winter stems if you leave it alone, maybe you could give it a prune in the spring if it really is too big? The Cornus is mainly useful for it's red winter stem effect. Wait until March and then cut it right down almost to ground level. This encourages new stems to grow through the season with the variegated foliage and creamy flowers which give you red stems the next winter.
