and thought it worth sharing. Be on the lookout and be vigilant people!

Visitors to city centres are to be especially vigilant to watch out for a new gang operating a slick routine that is
aimed at stealing from unwary persons.
They say that the gang usually comprises four members.

While the three younger ones, all appearing to be cute and innocent, divert their "mark" (or intended target) with a show of friendliness
and fun, the fourth - the eldest of this gang of criminals - sneaks in from behind the person's back to expertly rifle undetected through their pockets and bags for any valuables being carried.

The attached picture taken from CCTV operating in the inner city shows the gang in operation.

Love the picture Natalie, but that's how they do it.
What I would say is when you you see something out of the ordinary going on in the street - KEEP YOUR WITS ABOUT YOU. That is how these professional gangs operate.
Friends of mine were travelling in Europe .
They were sitting outside in a pavement cafe in Madrid in the middle of the day.
A lady of the oldest profession took up stance very close to the cafe and started soliciting aggressively - all eyes were on her.
A couple of men she was trying to solicit (gang members) were rude, noisy and telling her what they thought.
All eyes were on the show.
When my friends looked their bag with money, cards, passports, car documents etc was gone.
    And so was the gang.
    Be aware !

Oh I know Alice - although the pic attached is a cute 'joke' on the gang theory you are right in what you say. To this day I can't stand shopping in one closeby town - as I was pickpocketed by someone bumping into me (I had a baby in a stroller and was 'bumped' into the stroller) - seemed a sincere apology from the woman who walked down the back of the store obviously for the 'pass off' to another woman looking at a clothing rack, and then she left the store. Wasn't till the next store I went into my purse to find my wallet containing about £300 cash was gone. Don't normally carry much cash on me, but was out birthday shopping for hubby that day.

Was more annoying as I specifically went to a village bank machine withdrew the cash, and then drove to the town centre for the shopping. I will not voluntarily shop in that town anymore, and very rarely carry anything more than a twenty on me for 'emergency' purposes. Everything else by card - at least there's protection with those. :(

Hi Sussexgardener, thank you for the item on urban legends. when i made the posting appertaining to a child being spirited away,i was acting on the information from my granddaughter
who is employed with (asda). she had been off ill for a week, when she returned to work she was given this information from a workmate!. i phoned her today to ask her where she got the information. the biggest problem is the misinformation has spread all over our area  .

www.snopes.com is extremely useful for disproving urban legends, gossip, misinformation and rumour (all those things humans thrive on).

Like the story if a girl driving late and night, stopping to get petrol and unknown to her a knife wielding maniac creeps into the back of her car..:skp:
