    Hi.

My mother did had a gardener for the last few years but he packed in so I've said I'll give it a go. I only live a few doors away.

I'm almost a total novice, I've mowed lawns before and dug over flower beds, but that's about it.

:sign0016: @hoofy . None of us were born knowing anything about gardening:). There are lots of folk on here who are really knowledgeable so ask away and it's likely someone will be able to help you.

Welcome to GC. I handed over my gardening business to a friend in much the same position as yours. There were two books that he found really useful in the early stages: The RHS Encyclopedia of Plants and Flowers (for ID and garden planning) and the RHS Gardening Through The Year, by Ian Spence. The second one is invaluable for guidance on what to do when! As with any books, the content ages, so a double-check on t'Internet will give you up-to-date info as well :)
