Today I saw a path being dug up to replace the gas main, outside each house the paving slabs had been lifted and a hole was present (all with barriers) and I thought they work quick to dig THAT many holes. At the end of the row were a bunch of guys lifting paving slabs, but no shovels, in the road was a big truck with a pipe, yes you guessed it, they don't dig the soil out anymore, they use a giant vacuum cleaner and suck the dirt up making a hole.
Never seen that done before, anyone else seen it, or anything else equally as "odd"

That sounds impressive. It must be one awesome vacuum cleaner to suck up compacted mud from under the flagstones. It must be a dyson even.

Well, I just had to read your modestly-titled thread. I thought it was quite interesting, I'll look out for one of those.

When they finish they will do a great job replacing the pavement and leave everthing as it should be - and then the Water Board/Electricity/Cable will turn up in rote and repeat the exercise.
Be prepared for a year of havoc.:ouch1::scratch:
