I planted some kangaroo paw seeds at the begining of the year, one plant has survived and looking good in fact it has produced a flower bud. It looks like it might turn out to be white, does anyone know if I could bring it into the house, would it survive?. I have had a look but I can't seem to find a white variety anywhere for any information on it. It's in the greenhouse just now which is heated.

    Thanks

Hi Carol, Kangaroo Paws are only half hardy, so I think if you want to take it into the house you should be alright but you would probably be better off leaving it in the greenhouse as it`s heated. I think it will probably turn out to be the yellow variety. David.

Thanks David, I'll just leave it where it is and just admire it when I go in to water everything.

I have a few A. Manglesii (the common one) which has just flowered, this one is green and red, they can survive mild winters here but where you are D. they will need frost protection as yours will have, I haven't grown or seen a white one. [IMG]

Just an update, I checked on the plant today and the neck of the flower seems to have gone quite pink, I suppose until the bud opens fully I won't know. I can't wait to see what colour it is. :D

dalbuie, I have just found some cultural sheets for Kangaroo Paws I had when I worked in the garden centre. If you would like a copy pm me your address. David.
