My daily wildlife visitors. I never get tired of seeing them and all they eat is the grass! They're not into herbs or cucumbers or beet or pomegranates and so we get on just fine :hapydancsmil: kangarooatmydoorGC.JPG

As cute and as cuddly as they look, I wouldn't want them as visitors!

@Sheal :heehee: Depends on who you ask. Farmers don't like them as they are destructive to some crops. The only problem they pose around here though is the breaking of fences. I have no idea why.. perhaps to conserve energy for when they need it, but they prefer to clamber through the wire instead of jumping it and when they do, it twangs and at times breaks. I live on their natural route to the river and I feel sorry that humans have put such things in their path.

I don't understand why farmers put up fences where the kangaroo's natural route is, it would make sense to avoid it and those farmers would probably save on replacing their broken fencing.
Even in this country a great deal of farmers will not co-exist with nature willingly. Yes they lose a lamb here and a crop there but I'm sure that's not as expensive as working against it in the long run.

As a community of humans that can't find much value in them other than for pet food and the sometimes supermarket kangaroo steak, they wont ever be accommodated for :cry3:And when they are capable of giving birth to quadruplets if the environment is right.. they are plentiful and thus apparently not worthy of fencing considerations, natural lifestyle route or not. They cope okay though and just give their feedback by knocking down a few fences every now and again :heehee: I feel blessed to have them around and that they feel comfortable enough to do just that, pleases me greatly.

One of the good things about this country is the way animals are treated with respect. A couple of examples.

Wolves in this area have been killing sheep. Even if the farmers dont like this, they are not allowed to kill the wolf without special permission. Which is very rarely given as they are a kind of "protected species."

About 100km north of me, an exclusive housing area was planned. This idea was scuppered because the area was on the migration route of a tiny little newt!:)

@FloraPie so lovely for you to have the kangaroo visits and you are so lucky:thumbsup:

Have you heard of Kangaroo Dundee,Brolga who owns a sanctuary where he drives out along the roads to find the mother kangaroos who have been run over and killed, and the rescues the joeys from the mothers pouches, takes them back to his sanctuary and raises them until they can fend for theirselves. The work he does is brilliant:love30:

@Kandy I haven't heard of Kangaroo Dundee, no, but that's good to know!! I reared one about 20 years ago now, which was highly illegal to do in suburbia of course, but having not read the laws on kangaroo keeping.. Its mum was killed by hunters (pet food) and then those brutes had an emotional episode over the joey and it ended up in my care. *Edit.. I just looked up Brolga and oh! That's Rogers dad!!

Thank you @luciusmaximus :hapydancsmil::hapydancsmil: Sisters are always welcome! We can sip herb tea and watch kangaroos, red silky foxes and cotton tail rabbits from my valley side verandah. You'll have to hurry though, I move to an autumn property in about thirty days time  Still welcome though!

Here's my favorite picture I took of some kangaroos. One of them is in mid hop, but you need to look closely to see it because even though it's obvious which one isn't sitting.. it's not so obvious that it's about a foot off the ground!

The view is AMAZING, fauna delightful and pots are fabulous.. still, Melbourne's autumn and winter are approaching and so it's nearly time to move into a warmer abode where there's more ground dirt to dig in and the walls are brick with an inside wood fire. Six months at one place and then six months at the next.. where-ever that may be :)
