We arrived at the Kent County Garden Show at 11 this morning and left at 5. Long day and more plants for the garden.

The most exciting thing we bought was a Clianthus puniceus, a rambling shrub from New Zealand.

Other things we bought were mainly small.

    Eucomis 'Sparkling' Burgundy
    Lepitospermum scopanium (Red Damask)
    Cressula milfordiae (sedifolia)
    Sempervivella alba
    Helianthemum hybrid 'Lawrenson's pink'
    Wahlenburgia congesta
    Sisyrinchium 'E.K.Balls'
    Erodium variabile 'Candy'
2 x Rhodosomething (They've lost their labels) Little pink and white flowers.
Dryopteris affinis Crispa Gracillis (syn. congesta)
    Blechnam spicant
    Asplenium scalopendrium. Anguststum (syn. Phyllitis)
    6 x Lewisia cotyledon (hybrids)
    4 x miribilis roots.
    3 x Astilbes

    Rich,

I bought a Clianthus at the Southend Garden Show, it seems that the Clianthus is going to be 'THE' plant that everyone sells at these events, being nosey, what did you pay ? I paid £12 (from memory), but others at the show wanted £15 and one even wanted £20  for exactly same size plant.

I bought the red flowered Clianthus, but they also had the white flowered one also, they were selling them as 'Lobsters Claw' and 'Parrots Beak'

Heres a pic of mine (sorry it is a bit blurred)

As you probably thought when you saw it 'I can't leave without one ;) '

    Nathan.

Very nice Nathan, I grew mine from seed but its not flowering as well as yours.
Wish I could go out and buy plants like that Rich, if I did I wouldn't know where to put them, no space, I think I'll have to move.

Rich, nice selection of plants there.

I bought a couple of Eucomis 'Sparkling' Burgundy, has been fully hardy no problems. They bulk up pretty quick too I originally only had 2 shoots in 2003 and I think 5 shoots come up this year.

Top banana flower! , although I believe it is known as the pineapple lily/flower. :D

I paid £7.99 for it. Other stalls had them at the same size for £12 and £15.

I've identified the unlabelled plants as rhodohypoxis.

I always walk round the garden looking for holes wit h which to plant new items. Also I'm building a new bed with a half port barrel as a centrepiece into which I shall be making a miniature rock garden, hence all the small stuff.
