I've wanted one of these guys for a long while now and finally got one today. I already have a parlour palm but that has a more short and squat habit, whereas the kentia is a more tall slim build, which is what I want. I believe they're pretty easy to care for. Is there anything I need to be aware of?

Keep it away from that radiator ;)

Water from below, away from draughts and strong summer sunlight. Dont let it dry out or the leaves brown up.

I fed mine seaweed in the growing season.

Thanks. That radiator's never on, we have a wood burner that heats the house. That window is north facing, the sun never shines in so direct bright sunlight never enters that room.

I also have a parlour palm, see below, which, as you can see is looking really healthy. All I feed my parlour palm with is fish tank water, which has nitrate in, hence healthy green leaves. I plan on feeding my kentia similarly.

How long will it take my kentia to reach the ceiling, I believe they are really slow growers?

If you potted it on, fed it and spoke softly to it, it'll still take a few years to reach the ceiling.
Or, thirty seconds if you put it on top of a step ladder!:heehee:

I'm always on the look out for gardening tips to vastly improve the basic and mediocre knowledge I currently possess. Your tip regarding the step ladder to make your plants "grow" is gardening gold sir, pure genius, lol.

I may have been joking, but a step ladder is actually a novel way of displaying a variety of plants
