What wonderful photos!!! Thank you for posting :blue thumb:

My father was in Kenya (in the days when it was pronounced Keenya :heehee: and at the times of the Mau Mau uprisings)

He returned, very ill, but with some amazing carvings from the Masai Warriors; which were treasured until our mother emigrated and they became lost in the mist of times. He had a healthy affection for the Masai.

What a wonderful trip you must have had. I'm in awe!

Absolutely stunning Strongy and so nice for your good lady to find her school still going strong. I do appreciate GC members showing me the places they've visited. Never boring for me. Especially somewhere as superb as that,
          thank you,
          Jenny

Yes, I was the only Air Radar fitter {come telecom, radio, instrument basher and fixer] there for most of the time. It was supposed to have been a 3 month detachment.....but obviously someone forgot about me being there. I had no objections as I made a lot of good friends out there and am still in contact them. I used to go with a local called Paul for a couple weeks in an old truck in the Tsavo, Shaba, Meru, Marsabit, Masia Mara areas. It wasn't as touristy or commercial then and things were a bit more basic and slightly more risky....but good fun. All of my pics were taken on colour slides with an early Pentax and I still have them in plastic folders. Glorious Sunsets, but it's the redness of the soil that always sticks in my mind.:snork:

Looks like my kind of place Strongy.
How commercialised is it, I mean I like a nice place to stay overnight and must admit I'm passed roughing it.
But it does look actually fairly untouched once you get out and about.
Your shots look very quiet regarding numbers of people, is it really like that, or did you have to sneak out at dawn to get a pic with nobody cluttering it.:snork:

Terrific photos Strongy - just might have to think about putting a visit on our bucket list.

The shot of the school gates reminded me of a friend who worked at a girls boarding school in Kenya who told me that just at the start of a term a large quantity of meat was delivered but the large school freezer packed in. Some quick thinking saw the school gates removed and utilised as a rack over a large fire to smoke and dry the meat
