One of of our interests is being members of the Mel Fisher treasure hunters.
If you google you can find out more information. We have been members for maybe 15 years. Each year we travel down to Key West and stay for couple weeks. Meeting up with lots of same members, developing friendships and having great fun. Besides gatherings all week, there is a major party 300-400 members show up to an on the beach party dressed in a costume theme. So I wanted to share with you all what we---my husband and I looked like this year.
We had a blast to say the least.

For my costume, I found a place on line in Egypt that custom made it for me, gave them my measurements and color choices, it was to me in 3 weeks. What you don't see is the skirt, which has panels of gold coins, making it difficult to sit with out adjustments every time.
For my husbands, it was homemade, found a tie dye tea shirt, and a boat hat which I sown on it a multicolored feathered boa, and added feathers for height on it also.
And he wore two straw skirts of two colors intertwined. For his face we had a face painter down in Key West come to our place. She took one hour to produce what you see. And what may be hard to notice is that he wore long blue feathered eye lashes and I wore medium length purple ones.
And yes there is a comp for best outfit. The theme of the party was Carnival in Tobago. Thus the judges were to judge based on the theme. A women was picked that did not exhibit the theme in anyway. Lots of us were upset. There were many more with more elaborate costumes than us that truly deserved first place. Rumor had it that someone over heard someone talking in the bathroom prior to the selection that the choice was already made, because that women husband is dying of cancer.
But, the funny part is, a week after the party, in their bulletin, who's picture was placed center stage on the front of it,----my husband. You did not see the picture of the "person" who won.
Anyway, after the party, a group of us, about 20 we walked the street of Duval. And let me tell you men, if you want to be a chick magnate, dress up like my husband. All the young women wanted a picture with him. We could have made a mint. It was fun.

For next year lots of us are waiting for the theme choice again, however, given what the judges did this year, some that spent tons of time and money on their costume is having second thoughts of entering again. And my husband did voice his concern to the judges. Again, there were some really out standing costumes that should have won. So we shall see what happens.

:thumb: Gosh Redstar that on line costume maker in Egypt did a fantastic work of art for you there by the looks & sounds of it.. Shame you didn't show the skirt by the sounds of it..!! Your husbands outfit is equal in it's ingenuity, you did "a wow" job for him & the face painting has really set it all off.. Brilliant..!! :yho:

I am sorry to hear that the event was marred by a stupid judging decision like that... We all feel terribley for someone dying of cancer, but you cannot let that make your decision for you, when judging so many &, when you have so many people who had travelled so far, spent all the time & money on costumes for the big event like that... Sad, but at least you didn't let it get you down... Sounds like you all had a great time walking the strip, especially your husband..!!! :hehe: I hope it will be sorted out for next year..! :thumb:

Found this link so you can see more pictures of the party.

When you get to the link, and you select the last button that is the carnival party, guess who the first picture is of---my husband. And as I looked through them, guess what again----no picture of the lady that "won", interesting don't you think.
The other selections are of the gatherings through out the link. I will have to look at them also, as I did not know they put all them up. Kinda nice.

Oh, I was wrong. The women that won is in those slides. She is number 46, standing alone, with a long blond wig on and holding a sign saying "Today's the Day".
Guess she stood out so much as I was running through them. humm.
Just called my husband who is down there now, he's going to get them to send us that face shot of him via email.
After all these years we've come to pal with most of them when down there.
One of the days that week 12 of us went fishing. Together we caught 60 keeper fish.
Went to local restaurant with the catch, they cooked it up for us and served yummy sides. There we were a table of 12 of us. Lovely evening.
We've toyed with buying a property (house) down there as prices are so good now. But with the time shares we have. And then the worry about a house when we are not there. There is worry to renting etc. Its just easier to not do it. But the only way I would if we found a nice place on the ocean, or at least with a ocean view.
For now we are not looking.
